The Origin of Prototype Thinking
Prototype Thinking was developed when executives at Google X realized that actual human experience was always more reliable than internal debate - even when the people debating happened to be some of the brightest in the world - like Sergey Brin and Tom Chi, our co-founder. Using Prototype Thinking, they broke the endless cycle of spending days, weeks, and months debating, guessing, and conjecturing. Instead, they began developing better ideas, products, and services by cutting straight to the work of testing and learning through rapid iteration with real humans. Rather than keeping this process locked away, Prototype Thinking Labs is on a mission to help startups, corporations, and non-profits achieve unprecedented growth by adopting this revolutionary methodology.
Tom pioneered and introduced Prototype Thinking while serving as head of product experience at Google X - developing technology such as Google Glass, Project Loon, and self-driving cars. Tom’s mission is to make humanity a net positive to the environment by changing the way we solve problems.
